10 Things I Will Never Do At Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is the most magical place on planet earth.  There is much to be done between the 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, and 1 shopping district. However, there are some things that I just will NOT do. Here are 10 things that I will never do at Walt Disney World:

1. Skip the sunscreen

The very first time I ever went to Walt Disney World, I left the sunscreen in the car. We had put on some in the parking lot that morning. We were planning on park hopping in the afternoon, so I figured we would just re-apply at the car a few hours later. That was a mistake. Only about an hour after walking around in the Sunshine State, we were baking. Luckily, sunscreen can be purchased at the parks. However, it is easier to already have it with you.  Now whenever I go to the parks, I put a small bottle of sunscreen in my park bag and re-apply frequently.

2. Visit to the parks with no plan

Frequent readers of this blog know that this is my number one tip when visiting Walt Disney World: Do your research. After all, you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a vacation and have no idea what you’re doing. I recommend looking over the attractions available at each of the four parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom) and selecting 3-5 that sound the most fun. These attractions will be your priority.

Walt Disney World is the most visited theme park in the entire world. It will be busy when you go, and wait times can be long. It would suck if you didn’t get to do everything you wanted to before the park closed. Now, you don’t need to over-plan. You don’t need a militant schedule packed down the minute especially if that will make you stressed. Just look over the rides, show times, character meet and greets, and places to eat. Get an idea of what you want to do before you go.

3. Wait until the end of the day to take pictures

This little “life hack” has been a live saver for me, as a social media participating young adult. I love snapping fun pics to commemorate my visit. Walt Disney World itself is very photogenic. However, I am not photogenic after a few hours in the park. Florida air makes my face sweaty and my hair limp. So, I like to take all of my selfies at the very beginning of the day when I still look cute.

4. Miss proper meals

Walt Disney World has a ton of delicious snacks, but you can’t survive on french fries and Mickey ice cream bars alone! You’re going to be getting a lot of steps in trekking all over the parks. It is important to keep your strength up and eat an actual meal when you can - even if it’s a cheeseburger from Cosmic Ray’s. I once forgot to eat lunch during a day at the Magic Kingdom. By 6:00pm, I was miserable. Never again.

5. Go too long without taking a sit-down break

Along with sitting down for a decent meal, it’s important to sit down and just rest your feet. I usually prefer to go somewhere inside with air conditioning, but there is seating all over the parks for people watching.

6. Leave the parks because of the rain

Walt Disney World is magical. The Florida weather…is not. There are seasons when it downpours every single day. Some people will assume it’s going to rain for the rest of the day, so large crowds start to leave the parks. Oftentimes Floridian downpours will only last half an hour and then the sun will come blazing down again. So, check the weather forecast before leaving the park. If you wait the rain out, you may be able to take advantage of a small window of time with low wait times for popular rides.

7. Expect magical moments from the cast members

A plethora of popular Walt Disney World tips online cite ways to make magical moments happen. Magical moment are spontaneous small gestures cast members do for guests. And since they are supposed to be spontaneous, you can’t force them to happen. One time a cast member gave us a fast pass for dressing up for Dapper Day. That was a magical moment, and something that was appreciated.  I’ve seen some people get entitled and expect magical moments to happen, only to let their vacation be ruined when a magical moment doesn’t happen to them. So please, don’t try to force or expect a magical moment.

8. Forget to install the My Disney Experience app

If you are planning a Walt Disney World vacation, you will need to download the My Disney Experience app. This app has maps of the entire resort, which is helpful when trying to navigate. It also has lists and wait times for attractions, shows, and character meet and greets. You can book restaurant reservations and virtual queue reservations through the app. Basically, this app will be your lifeline during your trip.

9. Cram more than 2 parks in one day

Many people make the mistake of assuming that Walt Disney World is only 1 park - the Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World actually consists of 4 different theme parks, and they all have unique offerings. Unfortunately, guests miss out on much when they try to cram all 4 parks into a short amount of time. I always suggest people to plan to visit for at least 4 days so they can dedicate a full day to each park. I’ve tried cramming 3 parks into one day on multiple occasions, and it isn’t 3 times the fun. It is exhausting. And traveling between the parks can really cut into your ride time. You will be rushed only to experience way less than if you spaced out your park days.

10. Miss out on trying something new

Walt Disney World has hundreds of rides, shows, character meet and greets, delicious snacks, parades, photo ops, scavenger hunts, and other experiences. I’ve lived in Walt Disney World for 7 months and still never done everything there is to be done.  I’ve seen some people get tunnel vision when spending a day at Disney, and have a bad time because they didn’t bother to explore or keep an open mind. Some of the most fun I’ve had at Walt Disney World was when I did things I didn’t think I’d like. So I will never skip something new just because it does’t catch my eye at first.

A Complete List of Disney Animated Movies

So, you want to know or watch every Disney animated movie ever? Disney Darling Blog has a comprehensive list of Disney movies, broken. down by the studio from which the films were produced.   Disney Animation Studios When most people think of "Disney movies", they are probably referring to Disney Animation Studios films. These movies were made from Disney's official animation studio and theatrically released.  At the time of writing, Disney Animation Studios (DAS) has released 61 movies. In this list, these movies are broken down by era. The Golden Era starts off with the massively successful Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The movies in this era were critically acclaimed and helped establish Walt Disney as a serious filmmaker.  During WWII, the Disney movie studio struggled. To save money, many films were made up of a compilation of cartoon shorts. This era is referred to the Package Era, or sometimes the Wartime Era.  With the war over, D...

A Review of Tinkerbell

One day my friends decided to Disney Bound as the fairies. They asked me which one I wanted to be and I had no clue. I had never seen a Tinkerbell / Fairies movie despite that the franchise was already 8 years old. But after a brief description of the fairies from my friends, I decided to go as Silvermist, the water fairy.  That was a year ago. Just recently I decided it was about time for me to check out this franchise. So I sat down and watched 2008's Tinkerbell. It was not as bad as I anticipated. Sure, there were some cheesy moments and the animation was crude. The movie's strong point was the voice acting of all the different characters. Tinkerbell has an all star cast with Kristen Chenoweth, Lucy Lui, Raven Simone and Jesse McCartney. Tinkerbell is voiced by none other than Mae Whitman. I am a big fan of Mae and she did not disappoint. I also really liked all the different characters, each with their unique talents and personalities. I think little girls could easil...

5 Things I Will NEVER Do At Walt Disney World's Epcot

Epcot is a unique park to the Walt Disney World resort. There’s plenty of rides to ride, shows to watch, food to eat, and alcohol to be consumed. However, there are just some things that I choose to skip at Epcot. Here are the things that I will NEVER do at Epcot: Start in Mexico There is a great debate amongst Epcot fans: start in Canada or Mexico? I am firmly on team Canada. Mexico is a fabulous pavilion, and I like to end on a high note. Plus, the drunker you are, the more exponentially fun the Mexican boat ride is, so you have to save that for last. When it’s the Food and Wine Festival, I love starting in Canada to get some cheese soup first thing. I dream about that soup, and I don’t want to wait all day long to have it.  I also love starting in France from the International Gateway. As long as we don’t start in Mexico! Forget to thank the Phoenicians Did you know that the giant golf ball at Epcot has a ride inside? It’s called Spaceship Earth, and it’s the park centerpiece at...

Walt Disney World Parks: The Basics

Are you planning a trip to Walt Disney World? Or just want to learn more about the parks and don't know where to start? Disney Darling breaks down the basics for you! Disneyland vs. Walt Disney World Disneyland and Disney World are two different parks, located on opposite sides of the country. As mentioned in this post , it is a common misconception that Disneyland and Disney World are the same thing.  Disneyland is the first Disney theme park ever, opening in 1955. It is located in Anaheim, California, near Los Angeles.  Disneyland has two different parks: Disneyland Park (with the castle), and Disney's California Adventure (or DCA). Disneyland also has three hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping district.  Walt Disney World is located in Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando. It opened in 1971, after Walt's passing. Walt Disney World has 4 different theme parks, 2 water parks, 28 hotels, and the Disney Springs shop...
