Walt Disney World Parks: The Basics

Are you planning a trip to Walt Disney World? Or just want to learn more about the parks and don't know where to start? Disney Darling breaks down the basics for you! Disneyland vs. Walt Disney World Disneyland and Disney World are two different parks, located on opposite sides of the country. As mentioned in this post , it is a common misconception that Disneyland and Disney World are the same thing.  Disneyland is the first Disney theme park ever, opening in 1955. It is located in Anaheim, California, near Los Angeles.  Disneyland has two different parks: Disneyland Park (with the castle), and Disney's California Adventure (or DCA). Disneyland also has three hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping district.  Walt Disney World is located in Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando. It opened in 1971, after Walt's passing. Walt Disney World has 4 different theme parks, 2 water parks, 28 hotels, and the Disney Springs shopping district.  There are quite a few more differences, but lo

First Thoughts On The New Genie System

If  you've been keeping track of the Disney parks, you may have noticed that Disney did not bring back the FastPass system when reopening the parks in 2020. Recently, the company announced a FastPass replacement. This new system is called "Genie". Like all changes to the Disney parks, this has been met with a lot of criticism. Let's break down some features of Genie to see if it will actually be an improvement or a hinderance.  FastPasses Walt Disney World's previous system of FastPasses was fairly simple to use. If you had a park ticket, you could select up to three FastPasses 30 days in advance. There were a certain number of passes for each attraction and for each time slot. Each FastPass had an hour long time slot. For example, if you booked a FastPass for a ride from 1:00-2:00, you could get in line anytime during that hour.  Sometimes Cast Members would allow a 15 minute grace period on either end. So you could potentially get in line as early as 12:45 or as

How To Have A Bad Time At Walt Disney World

There are millions of tips and tricks on how to have a good time on a Walt Disney World visit. But what about the things you shouldn't do? I've compiled a list of 6 ways to ruin your Walt Disney World experience: Don’t plan anything at all I used to work at the front entrance of Disney's Animal Kingdom, and the amount of times a whole family would saunter off the bus and ask a coworker or I “So…what’s there to do here?” was astronomical.  There are A LOT of things to do at Walt Disney World. Take one look at the list of attractions or the sheer size of the parks and it's enough to overwhelm anyone. It’s difficult to wrap my mind around shelling out so much money for travel, hotel, and tickets just to not know anything about the place you’re traveling to.  Some people don’t even know there’s more than one park in Walt Disney World before they go! Of course, asking the Cast Members for advice or suggestions isn’t a bad idea. But having a Cast Member plan out your whole da

Friday Favorites: Top 3 Favorite Disney Songs

3. I'll Make A Man Out of You This is possibly the coolest Disney song ever. Everyone rocks out to "Mysterious as the dark side of the mooooooon". I put on this song anytime I need a little motivation to make it through. I played this song on repeat before some finals in college, and I'm convinced this song is the reason I passed.  2. A Whole New World No Disney love song can quite capture the wonder and excitement of falling in love like A Whole New World. Alan Menken's intricate composing and Lea Solonga's emotional voice really take this song to the next level.  1. Circle of Life This is my favorite Disney song of all time because I can't get sick of it. And I've tested this out. When I was working at DAK, Circle of Life was played on their background music loop. Each loop lasted about a half hour. So I listed to this song about 12 times a day, every day, for 7 months straight. And it still gives me chills.
