Quick Tips for First Time Visitors at Walt Disney World

Chapek is GONE!!!

Well, to say that being a Disney Parks fan over the last couple of years has been disappointing would be...an understatement. Plans have been cancelled, prices have been raised, perks have been taken away, and there seems to be nothing new or exciting on the horizon. There is a LOT I could get into. But I need to stop myself or this post will never get published.

Since the pandemic, Bob Iger smartly stepped down as CEO and was replaced by Bob Chapek. Paycheck, as I so lovingly refer to him as, could not have inherited the Disney kingdom at a worse time. Iger was still facing public backlash and financial setbacks from his purchase of Fox for Disney+. Plus, there was the pandemic, which came with its own slew of issues. Of course, some happenings were out of Paycheck's control. And maybe his reputation could've just been a little hiccup, a tiny whitehead on the face of the company that could be easily squeezed out, healed over, and forgotten about. But he decided to open his damn mouth.

Yes, what I am most upset about Paycheck's performance is not necessarily his financial decisions (although they were pretty terrible, too) but his complete disrespect towards Disney fans and Cast Members. Calling half of your paying, loyal customers "undesirables" is beyond fucked up.

Under Iger, the Disney fandom really exploded. We were catered to, with merchandise designs, photo ops, and incredible experiences featuring cult-favorites. For example, when Hocus Pocus's cult-following boomed into mainstream media in 2015, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular was added to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. As Disneybounding took over Tumblr, Main Street became filled with casual wear modeled after Disney characters - for adults! And all four parks were set to receive major upgrades and additions. We got New Fantasyland, Pandora, Star Wars Land, and Toy Story Land all within the same decade. On the other coast, DCA was re-vamped, too. But I want to take a moment to point out that 2/3 of New Fantasyland - Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, are Disney Renaissance movies. Those are the movies millennials grew up with. Toy Story? Also a 90s kids thing. Avatar was widely successful and came out when a good chunk of millennials were in college or high school. And Star Wars may have gained a younger audience with the sequels, but the prequels were made...in the 90s and early 00s. Which meant that millennial children were watching them. All of the major additions to the parks were catered towards the millennial audience - all of whom were adults using social media to geek out about Disney by this point. All of this is connected to my Disney Nostalgia Theory ™(which is for a different post). Anyways, it was a good time to be a parks fan under Iger.

Even if Iger did make some mistakes (and he DID), as a fan and former CM, I never felt disrespected under Iger. Paycheck's treatment of his company's own supporters has made my passion for Disney dull. And I am not the only one.

As happy as we are that the Evil Paycheck is defeated, I cannot honestly say a miracle is going to happen to the company anytime soon.

Iger was brought back to cut costs as the corporation isn't making as much money as they want to (emphasis on WANT). That probably means Iger isn't going to see his original plan of updating all four parks through. Epcot is not getting anymore revamps anytime soon, even though it still desperately needs it. After Tron, Tiana, and Moana are finished, we will probably not see anything new in the World for a looong time. Prices might continue to rise. Iger loved focusing on Disney+, so I bet the streaming platform will get more attention than any other area in the company. Of course, I know next to nothing about how a company works, so these are all just predictions from someone who has followed Disney news for years.

Iger is a temporary fix, a step in the right direction, a bandaid over the zit as it heals. I have high hopes but no expectations.

All I can really say at this point is that it's good to be a park fan again ♥

A Complete List of Disney Animated Movies

So, you want to know or watch every Disney animated movie ever? Disney Darling Blog has a comprehensive list of Disney movies, broken. down by the studio from which the films were produced.   Disney Animation Studios When most people think of "Disney movies", they are probably referring to Disney Animation Studios films. These movies were made from Disney's official animation studio and theatrically released.  At the time of writing, Disney Animation Studios (DAS) has released 61 movies. In this list, these movies are broken down by era. The Golden Era starts off with the massively successful Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The movies in this era were critically acclaimed and helped establish Walt Disney as a serious filmmaker.  During WWII, the Disney movie studio struggled. To save money, many films were made up of a compilation of cartoon shorts. This era is referred to the Package Era, or sometimes the Wartime Era.  With the war over, D...

A Review of Tinkerbell

One day my friends decided to Disney Bound as the fairies. They asked me which one I wanted to be and I had no clue. I had never seen a Tinkerbell / Fairies movie despite that the franchise was already 8 years old. But after a brief description of the fairies from my friends, I decided to go as Silvermist, the water fairy.  That was a year ago. Just recently I decided it was about time for me to check out this franchise. So I sat down and watched 2008's Tinkerbell. It was not as bad as I anticipated. Sure, there were some cheesy moments and the animation was crude. The movie's strong point was the voice acting of all the different characters. Tinkerbell has an all star cast with Kristen Chenoweth, Lucy Lui, Raven Simone and Jesse McCartney. Tinkerbell is voiced by none other than Mae Whitman. I am a big fan of Mae and she did not disappoint. I also really liked all the different characters, each with their unique talents and personalities. I think little girls could easil...

5 Things I Will NEVER Do At Walt Disney World's Epcot

Epcot is a unique park to the Walt Disney World resort. There’s plenty of rides to ride, shows to watch, food to eat, and alcohol to be consumed. However, there are just some things that I choose to skip at Epcot. Here are the things that I will NEVER do at Epcot: Start in Mexico There is a great debate amongst Epcot fans: start in Canada or Mexico? I am firmly on team Canada. Mexico is a fabulous pavilion, and I like to end on a high note. Plus, the drunker you are, the more exponentially fun the Mexican boat ride is, so you have to save that for last. When it’s the Food and Wine Festival, I love starting in Canada to get some cheese soup first thing. I dream about that soup, and I don’t want to wait all day long to have it.  I also love starting in France from the International Gateway. As long as we don’t start in Mexico! Forget to thank the Phoenicians Did you know that the giant golf ball at Epcot has a ride inside? It’s called Spaceship Earth, and it’s the park centerpiece at...

Are the Disney Princesses Good Role Models? Part 1: Snow White

The Disney Princesses are often topics of criticism. They are too weak, too focused on outwardly beauty, and offer nothing of substance to the world. This criticism is especially apparent in feminist circles. However, just like any other group of people bundled together under one label, there are disagreements.  If you ask a handful of  feminists their opinion on the Disney Princesses, you will get a handful of different answers. Why are the Disney Princesses even worth the attention of feminists? Walk into any Wal-Mart or Target or toy store and you will get the answer. The Disney Princess line is heavily marketed to young girls all across the world. And anything fed to the minds of the next generation while they’re still impressionable is worthy of examination. Whom these kids decide to emulate is whom they will become.  The Disney Princesses, of course, are not just limited to children. Disney movies span over decades and generations. Everyone, no matter the age, c...
