After submitting your online application for the Disney College Program, you will get an email. Hopefully, this message will tell you that you have been selected to move forward in the application process. The next step is the web-based interview.
The web-based interview was the most nerve-racking part for me as it was so mysterious. There weren’t a lot of articles or YouTube videos going over it compared to the plethora of advice for the phone interview. Looking back, the WBI was the easiest part of the application process.
Essentially, the web-based interview is a personality questionnaire. You will mostly be answering questions on a 5-point or 7-point scale like “rarely/sometimes/neutral/often/always” or “strongly disagree/somewhat disagree/neutral/somewhat agree/strongly agree”. You will be asked questions about your personality, how well you work with people and punctuality.
An example of what the WBI will look like. Please note that this is NOT an actual screenshot of the WBI.
The WBI is the easiest to… manipulate, for lack of a better term. Disney wants Cast Members who are helpful, motivated, work well with others, have a positive attitude in difficult situations, and are punctual. The WBI is mostly common sense. Disney does not want to hire Cast Members who are always late and hate people. During the WBI, say that you are punctual and love working with others, and you will do just fine.
I have two major tips of advice for the WBI. The first one is to take your time. This may seam like weird advice because the WBI is timed. You only have a few seconds to answer each question. However, you still need to make sure you process all of the questions. Carefully read each question before answering. You will notice some repeated questions. This is to check if you are paying attention and that you are consistent in your answers. Sometimes questions are worded in tricky ways. You might see a “I am never not on time” followed by a “I am alway late”. These are basically the same, just worded differently. You would want to check “strongly agree” for the first one and “strongly disagree” for the second one to be consistent in answering.
The second piece of advice I have is based on a rumor I heard, but it worked well for me. I was told that Disney likes candidates who are firm in their answers on the WBI. Avoid picking the “neutral” option. Rather, pick strongly agree/strongly disagree or always/never - the options on either end of the scale. This is what I did. I never picked a “somewhat” or “sometimes” answer. I never answered in the middle of the scale. It was one end or the other. Honestly, I think tip #1 is more important. If you slow down and carefully read the questions, you will know how to answer them.
As soon as you complete the web-based interview, you will get a screen that says “Thank you for your interest” or “Next stage: phone interview!” An email will be sent to you with details on how to sign up for your phone interview.
